Connect the Classroom: DfE funding eligibility
The Department for Education (DfE) has announced the latest phase of its Connect the Classroom programme, allocating an additional £25 million to enhance wireless networks in schools across the UK. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that all students have access to reliable, high-speed internet connectivity.
Eligibility Notifications This Spring
Starting Spring 2025, the DfE will directly contact schools that meet the eligibility criteria for this funding. Schools are advised to monitor their communications, including spam folders, to ensure they do not miss this opportunity.
What the Funding Covers
Eligible schools can utilise the funding to upgrade their Wi-Fi infrastructure to meet the DfE’s technical standards, which include:
Installation of Wi-Fi 6E or higher access points.
Deployment of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switches.
Implementation of Cat6a structured cabling.
Establishment of centrally managed network solutions.
Enhancement of network security features.
These upgrades are designed to provide comprehensive coverage throughout school premises, ensuring that both students and staff benefit from improved digital learning environments.
