Strengthening Safeguarding

Effective filtering and monitoring are a core expectation of digital safeguarding in schools and trusts. They play a critical role in protecting pupils, supporting staff and providing leaders with assurance that technology is being used safely, proportionately and in line with statutory guidance.

The Department for Education Digital and Technology Standards and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) are clear that schools must have appropriate filtering and monitoring arrangements in place, with effective oversight and defined processes for responding to concerns. These arrangements should be proportionate to risk, consistently applied across devices and locations, and owned by senior leaders as part of a wider safeguarding approach.

hi-impact supports schools and trusts to implement and maintain filtering and monitoring that meet DfE expectations and work in practice. Our focus is on ensuring systems are configured appropriately, aligned to safeguarding processes and supported by clear roles and responsibilities so concerns can be identified and managed effectively.

We work closely with safeguarding leads, IT teams and senior leaders to review coverage across networks, devices and off-site use, ensuring consistent protection wherever learning takes place.

By embedding filtering and monitoring within wider safeguarding and digital strategy, schools and trusts gain clarity, consistency and assurance. The result is a proportionate approach that protects pupils, supports staff and enables safe, effective use of technology.
