St John’s Catholic Infant School: Our Compass Story

How St John’s Catholic Infant School brought systems and data together with Compass and  hi-impact

St John’s Catholic Infant School is a two-form entry school located in Bebington on the Wirral, supporting around 190 children aged 3–7. Rooted in a strong Catholic ethos, the school provides a nurturing and inclusive learning environment guided by Christian values, and is proud to be both a UNICEF Rights Respecting School and a recognised School of Sanctuary.

The Challenge We Faced

Like many schools, St John’s Catholic Infant School was looking for a more modern, flexible approach to managing information and day-to-day administration. Their previous MIS was not cloud-based and offered limited functionality, making it difficult for staff to access information when and where they needed it.

Important pupil data was stored across different systems, and even locating the information that was available often required significant admin time. The school wanted a single, reliable platform that could hold everything in one place – from assessments and attendance to parental communication and engagement – and be accessible to all staff.

Finding the Right Solution

As an existing hi-impact customer for technical support, St John’s was introduced to Compass as a natural next step in their digital journey. The combination of Compass as a cloud-based MIS and hi-impact as a trusted support partner offered exactly what the school was looking for.

Compass stood out for its ease of use and intuitive design, making it accessible for all staff, regardless of role or technical confidence. With hi-impact already embedded in the school’s support structure, the transition felt joined-up and well coordinated.

The onboarding process was smooth, with both the Compass and hi-impact teams working closely with the school to answer questions, resolve queries quickly, and ensure staff felt confident from day one.

The Difference It’s Making

Since implementing Compass, St John’s has steadily expanded how the platform is used across the school.

Assessments and school reports have been moved into Compass, significantly reducing paper use and saving valuable admin time. The Parent App is now central to parental communication and engagement, streamlining how information is shared and received.

Attendance management has seen a particular improvement. Automated Pulse attendance reports are clear, easy to interpret, and always up to date. Absence notes are now submitted directly by parents through the app, reducing the need for follow-ups and saving staff time each day.

“Staff can access the information they need themselves, which has made workflows smoother and freed up time in the office.” Lisa Lumb, Office Manager

Looking Ahead
St John’s Catholic Infant School continues to explore and adopt additional Compass modules, confident that the platform can support both current and future needs. With the flexibility to build processes that suit the school, and the reassurance of expert guidance from hi-impact, Compass is seen as a long-term partner in the school’s ongoing development.

Together, Compass and hi-impact help schools in the North West of England simplify administration, empower staff, and focus on what really matters – supporting every learner to thrive.
